What does it mean to be “from” somewhere, “of” someplace?
This artist book explores my personal geography: a place that has helped to make me who I am. Guatemala, a country that prospers in culture (among many other elements), is home.
The artist book takes form of a simple wooden box that transforms into a Mayan pyramid, such as one you would see in Tikal. It holds four containers, each categorized and containing objects of sentimental value from my trips to Guatemala.
The containers not only supply factual text of each category, but my own words of how I obtained these objects. The base of the pyramid contains Stephen S. Hall's essay "I, Mercator", which helped me define what a personal geography is.
